I have been hunting information on this unit’s management for (you guessed it) automation and fun charting like a good crazy sysadmin would do. I called up the local supplier which patched me through to a support guy (Nice guy!). 2 simple questions and 2 simple answers from him 🙂 I’m impressed.
1) The “Ethernet port” is for management only.
It is NOT meant to set up as outbound to the internet reporting. I have requested more details (SNMP polling/API?) that I may be able to use to poll the device. Note: I was told it’s not a “normal connection” from a lappy (makes sense, can’t ping the IP even if it’s set on the console)
2) WiFi disable SSID/security
– No current way of disabling the WiFi SSID or securing it with any passwords.
– It’s a “outbound only” connection to the stats server, so it’s “secure”. Most someone could do is log in and change the Wireless Router it connects to. (hm… stats hijacking.. :P). As a note, I’m already hijacking the stats to be stored into my own DB before passing it through using a simple “iptables” rule to redirect its traffic to my emulator.php which then captures/forwards it through.
If anyone wants it they can reply/contact me 🙂
Overall, I do feel good that they have a good local support guy that knows what they’re talking about.
