For a ‘high end’ Gaming Router that cost a mint, this model definately doesn’t get the love it deserves from Netgear. Netgear used to be remotely reputable, compared to the corner-cutting Billions and the TP-Links. However these days, it feels like Netgear has joined the ranks of other sell-cheap brands. If this is how they treat their flagship products, it doesn’t inspire confidence in me.
Firstly: The VPN features (OpenVPN) is full of weird idiosyncracies – from outright not working (even with fixes given on the Internet) to the way it forces usage of DDNS (no-ip) and ping to be enabled.
I just found out a major “problem” with that when I got ONE client (out of 3) working on this OpenVPN setup. DHCP *HAS* to be on to assign the IP through to the OpenVPN client (not broadcast through the LAN for an existing DHCP server).
Secondly: The “port forward” doesn’t allow 80/443 to be passed through from WAN (A lot of routers have this issue!)
Overall, I love the Wireless/stability of the VDSL2 (NBN) connection – but in the long term, I think this might be relegated to an overexpensive WiFi base station, or a very expensive bridged router
